Paycor Review 2022: Features, Pricing & More

Paycor is a fully integrated Human Capital Management (HCM) solution that includes a robust payroll software component.

Available as a modular cloud-based application, Paycor offers a comprehensive payroll service as well as many human resource and employee management features such as time and labor management, employee scheduling, benefits, and recruiting and tracking candidates.

Who is Paycor for?

While Paycor offers a variety of custom payroll and HCM solutions for small and medium-sized businesses, we’ll focus on its Small Business bundle, which is designed for businesses with between one and 39 employees. The Small Business package offers three plans, starting with the basic plan, but you can upgrade to a more robust plan at any time.

Paycor Features

While Paycor emphasizes HCM management, it also offers a strong payroll capability.

The app is loaded with a variety of payroll features, with the majority of HR and compliance features found in the Essential and Complete plans. However, all small business plans include full payroll processing, federal and state tax calculation and filing, direct deposit, and many other features, including:

  • Self-service for employees
  • Mobile app
  • Payment cards
  • Reports
  • Document storage capacity
  • Contractor management and payment

Other features available in the Essential and Complete plans include a pay-as-you-go option for workers, self-service garnishment and child support payment options, access to the HR support center , HR checklists, templates and manuals.

Employee compensation options

Paycor can process payroll in all 50 states, including all state tax returns. You can also pay your employees in a variety of ways using Paycor, with direct deposit included in all plans.

You can also pay your employees with payment cards, as Paycor integrates with several payment card options. If you prefer to pay your employees by check, Paycor offers its own check stock, which uses its own bank account and routing numbers for added security.

Integration with third-party accounting apps is also available in Paycor, but only in the full plan.

Self-service for employees

Paycor’s employee self-service feature is available in all small business payroll plans. The self-service option gives employees easy access to their pay stubs, current pay history, direct deposit information, and all tax forms.

Employees can make changes to current tax deductions, and the smart workflow feature will notify you of the changes, which you can review and approve before they take effect.

Depending on the plan you choose, your employees will also have access to benefits information, as well as necessary HR or compliance forms, as well as Paycor’s robust learning management system.

Mobile app for iOS and Android

Paycor offers a free mobile app compatible with iOS and Android smartphones.

The app offers comprehensive payroll-related features, allowing you to easily run full payroll from your phone. The app also gives your employees access to a ton of features, including the ability to view their payroll information, view benefits details, request time off, and even clock in and out.

Employee onboarding

Although only available in Paycor’s most expensive small business plan, the employee onboarding feature allows your employees to access and complete all necessary onboarding documents, such as tax documents, direct deposit and Forms I-9.

The comprehensive plan also offers integration with the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) program. Contractors can also integrate with Paycor, with a hiring assistant available to guide your contract employees through the onboarding process.

Paycor’s ease of use

Paycor’s initial implementation is handled by Paycor’s support staff, who configure and enter all employee information, testing the software thoroughly before going live.

Once online, you can access all of Paycor’s features from the customizable command center, which is equipped with intuitive navigation and the ability to remove any features or functions that are not in use.

You will also have the possibility to add other functionalities later.

To speed up payroll processing, Paycor uses a payroll grid that shows all current employees, with salaried, hourly, and contract employees listed on the grid. If you use Paycor’s timekeeping feature, you can easily approve employee time cards in the system, with approved hours automatically populating the payroll grid.

This eliminates the need to import times from the timing app. Employee payroll information can be changed at any time before payroll is run, with new information available immediately. Once payroll entry is complete, you can view the summary page and make any last-minute changes before completing the payroll run.

Paycor’s tariffs

Paycor offers bundles for small businesses (1-39 employees) and medium businesses (40+ employees), with the small business bundle offering three pay plans to choose from. The prices below reflect the cost of each plan for up to 10 employees:

  • Basic pay: Includes full-service payroll, tax calculation and reporting, employee self-service features, and PDF reports. The basic pay plan starts at $99 per month for up to 10 employees.
  • Essential pay: Includes all basic features plus self-service garnishment and child support, HR templates, and advanced analytics. The Essential Payroll plan starts at $149 per month for up to 10 employees.
  • Full pay: Includes all basic and essential features plus one-on-one assistance from a certified PR professional, new hire onboarding and tax filing, and integration with 401(k) and accounting software applications . The full payroll plan starts at $199 per month for up to 10 employees.

If you currently have more than 10 employees, you will need to obtain a personalized quote from Paycor for your business.

In addition to the features found in the Paycor small business plans, there are a variety of add-ons available from Paycor. These include time and labor management, employee scheduling, benefits management, and recruiting and applicant tracking, with all add-ons priced separately.

Mentioned earlier, Paycor handles all initial product setup and new users are trained on the app before it goes live. Paycor also offers a variety of resources, including access to a robust in-app help system.
